Section Title Style Applied To First Page

This is my first post to the forum. I'll be upfront, I'm very green when it comes to inDesign.

I'm currently laying out a book, and ran into a peculiar problem. On my master page I have the overall text field, which houses all the book copy, and I have a text field I have placed for section headers / chapters. When I apply a paragraph style to the section header text field, it also applies that style to the first page text... thus transforming the font and font size to match the section header.

Up to this point I've had very little issue utilizing inDesign, but this one has be dumbfounded.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
