Microsoft Sharepoint 2007 - Word 2007

(OP)
We are using sharepoint 2007 - With office 2007.
Now we created a template in Word 2007 and uploaded into Sharepoint.
Before uploaded to Sharepoint, we could open the template and when saving, it saved straight into a DOCX file.
After uploading into Sharepoint, we can open into a template but when saving it comes onto a DOTX. Of course you can change the file extensions but it's not to do with such amount of non IT literate people. We would like to have it before the uploading into Sharepoint. I believe there is a way but I cannot find it.
Open as template but saving into a DOCX file. Options I already tried and it is not working.
Help me as my knowledge into Sharepoint is not that big.

Thank you for your time and hope on a quick reply with answer.
