thread1329-1561128: Mitel 3300cxi Controller Password

I read this post on how to reset the password for the web interface. Is there a way to edit that .db file instead of deleting it? If it must be deleted, upon reboot, does the system generate a new one? Or will this cause problems down't the road.

RE: Mitel 3300 Password Lost

The system will boot with the default password

That is the only thing that will change? All other programming, voicemails, extensions, etc, will remain unchanged?

I then login with system / password, and re-create the web login accounts?

yes, yes and yes

RE: Mitel 3300 Password Lost

Not sure this is possible with the latest software versions

RE: Mitel 3300 Password Lost

This should no longer work from 4.2 onwards.

RE: Mitel 3300 Password Lost

As DoubleUT has already said with Rel 4.2 the usrprf file is no longer there to delete.
There may still be a way to reset the password with Mitel tech support assistance I believe there is a tool to reset the password

RE: Mitel 3300 Password Lost

tried it on 5.0 yesterday, the file is still there in the same place but it has no effect

RE: Mitel 3300 Password Lost

is 5.0 already available for download on MOL?

RE: Mitel 3300 Password Lost

We had the same problem after taking on support from another vendor who we could not contact to reveal the password.  Raise a support ticket with them and get the password reset tool.  There is a cost for them to generate a new key.

RE: Mitel 3300 Password Lost

Looking through the update course it now appears that there is a way to reset the password using RS232 connection.

Quote:

Commands have been added to reset passwords to the default password 'password' for individual users or all system interfaces including the System Administration Tool, Group Administrator Tool and Desktop Tool respectively. They are Reset_Login_Password <username> and Reset_All_Login_Passwords.

RE: Mitel 3300 Password Lost

I was on a customers site yesterday, and tried the old password reset on version 4.1 SP2 - this didn't work, i went through the process.... it looks like it modified the file and moved it, but did nothing!

Sarond, your quote - is this a new way of resetting the passwords, and has anyone tried it yet?

RE: Mitel 3300 Password Lost

OK tested this on Rel 5.0 it works through the ESM maintenance commands and not through RS232 or RTC shell

RE: Mitel 3300 Password Lost

From the Help Files

The command is entered as RESET_LOGIN_PASSWORD "username" from the Maintenance Terminal connected to the RS-232 port and as ResetLoginPassword (no underscores) from the RTC shell (Telnet port 2002).

I have not tried it yet but would assume no underscores when RS232 or RTC Shell

RE: Mitel 3300 Password Lost

ahh!
ResetLoginPassword works from the RS232 and through SSH (both on the RTC shell)
RESET_LOGIN_PASSWORD it what is seen in the maintemance commands window on the ESM if I turn on the Auto complete.
Looks like the help file is incorrect in saying the RS232 port when it is used from the ESM

RE: Mitel 3300 Password Lost

Hi Sarond,

Thanks for your reply, do you know or any of the forum members know if this would work for version 4.1 SP2?

I take it all i would need to do is connect to the serial port and enter RESET_LOGIN_PASSWORD "system" followed by rebooting the controller?

Thanks

RE: Mitel 3300 Password Lost

Does not work on 4.1 this a new command for rel 5.0
you will need to call Mitel to reset the password on Rel 4.1

RE: Mitel 3300 Password Lost

Thanks Supernova99,

So does this mean below version 4.1 you can use the old command, and version 5.0 there's the new command - but between there are no commands?

Cheers

RE: Mitel 3300 Password Lost

4.0 and below you can just delete the usrprf file by FTP'ing into the system
This deletes all user/password profiles
When you reboot the system it will create a new default usrprf file so you can login as user system
4.1 has a halfway house reset password with the aid of Mitel Tech support and 5.0 allows you to do itvia the RTC shell
