Fill fields in GP/Wennsoft service with external data VBA?

Fill fields in GP/Wennsoft service with external data VBA?

(OP)
I am uncertain how to accomplish pre populating fields in a service ticket from an external document.  The current business process in this place I am interning at seems redundant to me and leaves the possibility for constant typographical errors and such.  My full post was originally in VBA for MS applications as I originally felt a button could be made in Great Plains VBA editor to pull this data from an excel file and fill in these fields, I have also been looking into infopath but do not want to apply directly to the database tables.

I would hate to link to a thread I started last night but it will be much easier to understand if I do:

thread707-1652085: Integrate external data into Great Plains fields

RE: Fill fields in GP/Wennsoft service with external data VBA?

Would this type of integration be easier if instead of an excel file it was an XML file?  I have not done anything like this before, again its all in the linked thread in my first post, but in essence I need to grab data from an excel file and pre populate fields in GP/Wennsoft with said data.

Would this be possible(or easier) if the data was XML?
