Query external database using registration details

I have a wordpress site that I would like to do the following:

Person fills out the registration form. When they click on Register I need to be able to connect to an external MSSQL database (Hosted elsewhere) and query it using information from the registration form.

I don't know if this is possible.

The problem I have is that I have no experience with PHP at all.

Hoping that someone can help.

RE: Query external database using registration details

this is cross posted.  I've helped with the php aspect (use the mssql extension to connect to the database).

For the wordpress side you need to hook in to the registration process. [link]adambrown.info[/link] is your friend here.  it has all the hidden and published hooks documented.

it sounds to be like you want to hook into register_post.  This hook provides you with the (sanitized) login name and email address.

for help on writing a plugin to exploit the hook, the wordpress codex is your friend and number one port of call.

let us know if you have more questions.
