Upgrade SQL 2008 to SQL2008 R2 on GP 10.0

(OP)
As part of my service agreement with my GP partner, I recently received and upgrade for SQL2008 R2. I am currently running SQL2008 w GP ver 10.0

I want to know if there are any benefits to upgrading to R2?

RE: Upgrade SQL 2008 to SQL2008 R2 on GP 10.0

Marc,

In general, there are always benefits to upgrading to a new version, it's faster, will be supported longer, will have fixes and new functionality, etc.  Often it's more a question of whether they will be worth the upgrade time and cost for you.  The answer to this is different for every GP implementation and it's typically best to talk about this to your GP partner or someone that knows the specifics of your GP implementation and what components and features you are using.

One very important consideration is that you will have to be on SP 5 of GP 10.0 to go to SQL 2008 R2.  (System requirements: https://mbs.microsoft.com/Cms/Templates/document/General.aspx?NRMODE=Published&NRNODEGUID={733B2077-8A74-47D3-A035-9F3B88BBD7AA}&NRORIGINALURL=/customersource/support/documentation/systemrequirements/system_requirements_GP10.htm&NRCACHEHINT=Guest&wa=wsignin1.0)

You can see a list of fixes in GP 10.0 SP 5 by downloading the GP 10.0 SP 5 install guide from here: https://mbs.microsoft.com/customersource/downloads/servicepacks/MDGP10_Previouspatches.htm

You can see what's new in SQL 2008 R2 here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb500435.aspx
