Octel 250 / Aria 03.11.05-1 Remove all translations

We are decommissioning an Octel 250 and returning it to the corporate warehouse. We are required to remove all translations before shipping it. I have removed all user mailboxes, but was wondering if there is an easy way to completely remove any and all translations that may be in the system? Something to reset the whole system to factory default values?

Thanks -

I don't have ^DS as an option - only B, ^DB and ^DD.

RE: Octel 250 / Aria 03.11.05-1 Remove all translations

you will not see it at the boot menu just do a ctrl DS  you may still need the eng bit or service bit turned on.

If you have modem access to the system we can wipe it for you.

Pressing ^DS does nothing, I suspect you're right about needing the service bit on.

I appreciate the offer, but spending money on this decom is not an option. I'll just have to go in and manually clear out the remaining items.

Thanks for the help!

OK Ken, I found the command string to enter through a modem connection, using ProComm ...... now how the heck do I get it to take? As soon as I connect, the Octel presents the log-in screen.... and the command string is way too long to enter there....

- Duaneness

RE: Octel 250 / Aria 03.11.05-1 Remove all translations

can you post the string ? You may be talking about the service bit that yo use on the open trees and not the modem.  If you call in using the modem you can re boot the system and get to the ^ds as the service bit is always turned on for that connection.

The string I found is in this thread:

I'll try rebooting through the modem first, but I am still curious how the command string works.

RE: Octel 250 / Aria 03.11.05-1 Remove all translations

you call the open trees menu like you were calling into your mailbox and dump the digits after it answers from procomm

I connected through the modem, shut down and rebooted the machine. When it got to the boot screen, ^DS was not listed, and pressing ^DS didn't do anything...... Any other thoughts?

RE: Octel 250 / Aria 03.11.05-1 Remove all translations

you need to do this at the enter boot command not the 3 choice field so clear the auto boot and do it at the boot >

When I try that, I get the following message:

Engineering or Service bit required to access this menu.
        Press any key to continue.

I am connected to the modem port on the CCF card. The only other modem port I see is on the LAN card . . .

RE: Octel 250 / Aria 03.11.05-1 Remove all translations

are you using a modem ? do you have anything connected to the console port at all ? if so remove it.

Other than that can't do anything else unless i touch the system and i have never seen a system that this does not work on the modem port. you can use the string to turn on the service bit if all else fails.

RE: Octel 250 / Aria 03.11.05-1 Remove all translations

Well, I can no longer dial into the unit as we pulled it out of the comms room, so I can't enter the string to activate the service bit.

Instead of boot> , I see ENTER BOOT COMMAND:. That's where I press ^DS. Stuff flashes by and then I see the Service Bit Required message I quoted above.

Nothing is connected to the machine except the modem and the power cord in back. Accessing through Procomm Plus ver 4.8. Dialing out through my laptop modem to the PSTN and back into the modem on the Octel. Laptop modem settings are 7-E-1, 9600, Data Protocol disabled, Compression disabled; Flow Control Xon/Xoff. Using same modem on the Octel that has been connected for years.

I'm ready to call it quits unless you see something I'm missing....
