I had this problem as well. A coworker had grabbed the 2100U by the side. In doing so had inadvertantly misaligned the top and bottom part of the scanner. To fix this simply lift document cover, remove two screws holding top to bottom lift the top. Put the top back down aligned properly and put 2 screws back in.
P.S. Don't over tighten the 2 screws.
