CCNA ebay bargain or so I thought

I just purchased the Sybex CCNA virtual Lab e-trainer. I didn't think to ask release date or version when I bid. when I received it I realized it was the year 2000 version.
Will using an old version atleast help teach some of the basic commands or could this be more harmful than good.

do i just need to chunk it in the trash and chalk it up to buyer beware and a lesson learned

Take a look at Cisco's site and see what the current test topics are. I use some older books in my study, as some of the subjects are still relevant. The key is to not waste time on things that aren't on the exam any more. You will also need some kind of way to cover the newer topics.

If I understand you correctly, you have books but not equipment? If so, I'm using 2500's in my lab, and they work just fine. Not the latest and greatest, but it helps to work with them. I also have some newer equipment, too, which is necessary for the newer topics. If it's not equipment, then just disregard this message.
