Advertised application does not start

Hi,

Please advice on the following :
vbs Package / advertisement created for Project 2007 Pro.
When running "Advertised Programs" from client workstation, the installation start and ends after approx 10s.
When manually running the vbs file, the installation runs fine.It appears as if the advertised application cannot be initiated. Someone any ideas ?

RE: Advertised application does not start

your vbs package, i presume you are talking about a vbscript?
does you vbscript have some logging functionality? e.g. it writes to a log file when it is started, its progress and when it is finished. this is what you would need to determine the outcome of your package.

you should be seeing status messages in SMS when you run the 'advertised program' on the client, what do these say?

restart the SMS agents service, restart the box and try again.

do you have the settings for the advert set to always rerun? e.g. has this machine not already failed it and therefore the advert isnt letting you restart it?

you say the 'installation starts and ends after appros 10s" how do you know this?

you say you can run the vbs file manually and it works fine, where is the vbs file located? i presume you are launching it off the SMSPackage share? other wise it wouldnt be a fair test?

Thanks for your reply.
In the meantime, we've discovered it was a NTFS rights issue.
We've indeed discovered the cause of the failure by examining the log files.
