Hello-
I have been provided a list by a customer of problems with dial by name directories - if I go in and list names ( alphabetically- .l names ) I noticed several names have multiple extensions associated with them - is there a seperate dial by name directory in this system or is it because multiple extensions show up the system is confused- how do I remove the incorrect extension / name listings-

Thanks in advance

You can use the .L Ref command for more detailed searching on the Serenade Octel 200. System parameter 147 defines the names directory number. You can also separately define a menu 'single digit menu' to program your own dial-by-name method.

Have you coordinated your efforts with a .LISTALL to determine how the extensions inter-relate?

Thanks for the reply- I'm now stuck on how to actually have someone record the names ( for the company wide directory ) from off-site. I found a manual online that outlines the procedure but it does not work ( I am calling the main number for the company ) when I enter a mailbox that has a COS to allow names recording I never get a "ready" prompt so I can enter "117" - this is actually a VMX200 Software 3.0 . If I enter # at the main greeting I am prompted to enter a mailbox - if enter one I am then asked for the security code? I don't know it -Should I change it and try again ?
The deal here is this company has not maintained the names directory for years - it's all wrong - I cleaned up the Octel names but cannot get into the actual names to be recorded and removed by a person within the company ( but they want to do it remotely )

This may be a silly question but is the mailbox in the COS with attribute 10 initialized? There should only be one mailbox that has this attribute assigned. Try initializing this mailbox with the attr 10 COS. Remove attr 11 if on this COS.

Thanks for your help- I figured it out and feel like a dummy- I found a mailbox with attribute 10 assigned to it within the COS- but all I had to do was LOGIN to the mailbox with a password ( Octel speak - "Security Code " )and then the little computer lady said "Ready?" after listening to the short message explaining the mailbox status - I could then enter 117 and begin to make changes to the system wide dial by name directory.
