Must I run Snow Leopord? just starting out learning

Hello. I'm an old-school programmer and I not used to the idea, yet, of developing code outside of a distant computer. I'm working to learn Objective-C on my own, it's not associated with any classroom experience.

I am running Mac OS X version 10.5.8.

I went to download the SDK from Apple at

and I see references to the XCode being for Snow Leopard.

I don't see any other version at this url

Must I run Snow Leopard in order to begin learning Objective C on my mac?

I think I'm missing something big, like maybe there is some other place to go to get a version that runs with the operating system I'm running?

Thank you
