Hi

Im looking to start studying for the icnd/ccent2(640-816) and was wondering which book would be best and where I can get my hands on a pdf version of that book.

Also any other pointers for preparation to pass this exam would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Ok I have a book, ccna/icnd2 official exam certification guide 2nd edition by wendell odom.

Does anybody know if its any good and whether it is up to date ?

RE: icdn/ccent2

I can't remember if that is the most uptodate edition or not.  You can always check at www.ciscopress.com to verify.

I used Wenell's book a few years ago and it was pretty good, but many on here will recommend (and I agree) use 2 sources.  The ciscopress book along with the CCNA books by Todd Lammle

RE: icdn/ccent2

I just used his book, in conjunction with other materials, and took the ICND1 exam.  I just barely did not pass, so i have to re-take it.  Not sure about your book, but mine came with a Boson CD that contained Practice questions.  I found those very helpful.  Had i not used those to prepare, i feel that i would have failed miserably.  the book i was issued is also 2nd edition, and i believe that is the most current.

RE: icdn/ccent2

that is a different author and book than referenced above.  Odom is the author referenced above, and the link points to McQuerry.  It looks like Odom has a third edition CCNA exam guide, but his most recent ICND2 exam guide is 2nd edition.  Either way, lerdalt makes a good point in getting more than one source of info, and getting the errata to ID mistakes.  I am fortunate enough to use CBT Nuggets, in conjunction with the book and some labs.  However, i am paying more for it too.

I have started using Wendell odoms 2nd revision and also using cbt nugget videos just to clarify anything I may not understand after reading the books first and doing labs after the understanding of how it works. So far Ive covered VTP and STP and seem to have grasped it.

I used todd lammle for the icnd1 and scored a 938 and alot of labs as well. Quite new to cisco equipment but getting along nicely in the learning curve.

RE: icdn/ccent2

^^you would not believe how complicated stp gets... just not until the ccnp level.

Does it get more complicated than PVST ? I know that this is only for the ICND2 but how much more redundant can you get ?

RE: icdn/ccent2

I haven't gone through the latest CCNA material, but I know when I went from CCNA to CCNP a few years back, I was amazed at the jump between the too.  At a high level, you could easily say that almost everything you learn in CCNA is just an introduction compared to what is covered in the CCNP.

RE: icdn/ccent2

Pvst, is a base, There is MST, RSTP. Root port, edge port, Designated Port. There will basically be enough info to write a 900 page book on STP in the future. In my CCIE studies there really isn't to much more then whats in the Bcmsn. I am feeling that Jump right now from The CCNP to the IE. The written doesn't look bad, but the lab.........

lerdalt, its interesting that you mention that ccnp is a big jump. Im not sure if the course's modules have changed or not because Im still new to this. But I have spoken to 2 other CCNP qualified guys and they mentioned that doing the ccna was harder because of the amount of stuff in there.

RE: icdn/ccent2

Maybe it's better to describe it like this.  The CCNA you get to know a little about a lot of different things.  The CCNP then starts to break up all those different things into more specifics within individual tests.

Of course, I'm going back to the BSCI/BCMSN/BCRAN/CIT days for the CCNP.

RE: icdn/ccent2

I was a bsci, bcmsn, iscw, ont NP now its route and t-shoot. I took the beta t-shoot and passed. But it is much more difficult then i thought.
