INSERT INTO testlib/testfile

I have an older book that shows you can do and insert into file from a select from anouther file. But DB2 is complaining that the new file does not exist.

It won't automatically copy the structure for you?

RE: Insert into

SQL server allows you to perform a table copy through INSERT INTO. However it then only creates the bare table (no keys, indices etc)
AFAIK there is no such mechanism with either DB2 / Oracle etc. Does your book cover DB2/AS400 or SQL server T-SQL?

RE: Insert into

My Book covers SQL/400. But all the newer examples, on the web, do a create_table first then INSERT_INTO.
