IE 8 red x deletes my browsing history when I don't want it to

IE 8 red x deletes my browsing history when I don't want it to

(OP)
Okay, I searched the forum the best I could, and didn't find anything about this, but I'd still bet you're sick to death of hearing about this.... Has anyone yet come up with a way to disable the red x that shows up in the drop down list of websites visited and when you accidentally click on it (because Microsoft, in it's wisdom, put it right under the down arrow you just clicked on), instead of taking you to the webiste you want to go to, it deletes it from your browsing history? I know it's designed to do that, but I'd like to disable it!
Over a year, and I'm still accidentally deleting history instead of going to the website I want.

RE: IE 8 red x deletes my browsing history when I don't want it to

Maybe you should look at alternative browsers, such as Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, etc.. or is that not an option in your situation?

RE: IE 8 red x deletes my browsing history when I don't want it to

Why not just get int he habit of moving your mouse slightly to the left after clicking the down arrow and before moving down through the list?  As long as you're not directly over the X you're pages won't be deleted.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for all the suggestions.
Diane, I tried the group policy edit; for some reason it didn't work, haven't had a lot of time to look into why not, but will keep pursuing it. It does look promising.
As to the other suggestions, of course I do use firefox whenever possible, but some of the apps I support only work with IE, so I have to continue to use it. I support different versions of it as well, so whenever possible, I just stick to IE7. As you know, 8 can be difficult to uninstall, impossible if it comes loaded on a new PC, so that's not an option either.
Again, thanks for the suggestions.
