Very slow internet response on Acer Netbook

Very slow internet response on Acer Netbook

Very slow internet response on Acer Netbook

On an Acer Aspire One (netbook), I am getting extremely slow internet response -- minutes to display a google home page.  Other computers on the same home network (both wired and wireless) work fine.  Other functions the Acer respond well (ex: loading and running excel).

The Internet Explorer network diagnostics says all is ok.  Plenty of disk space and only application running is IE.
Uninstalled and reinstalled network adapter.  Problem shows up both wired and wireless.

Running xp home.  IE is version 7.

Need ideas on how to diagnose.

RE: Very slow internet response on Acer Netbook

If you haven't already done so, I would do some basic house cleaning: Ccleaner and/or Glary utilities to clear IE cache and temp files. Also, you might try Firefox or another browser to see if the issue persists. Ping the gateway from the machine in question and a different machine to see if there are any differences.

When you're standing on the edge of a cliff, a step forward is not progress.

RE: Very slow internet response on Acer Netbook

What WiFi flavor are the other wireless PCs using successfully (b,g, or n)? Can you specify that one on the netbook?
Can you upgrade from IE7 to IE8? I've found 8 very worthwhile.
Can you try the internet from the netbook when ALL of the other PCs in the house are offline ? It might be that they've got your pipe saturated, and if the netbook logs on last, it has the dregs of the connection. this is particularly true of one of the PCs connected ahead of you is watching video -from YouTube or anywhere else. Even myspace pages with video can tie up the home network.
