In my continued effort to determine if our project management process for software development is efficient. I would like to do an audit of our processes. I was told I need an IT governance document.

Any suggestions on the audit or the document?

IEEE has standards for Software Engineering.  You should also consider CMM.  Here's some links in IEEE:
