Hi,

can you tell me if a 3com 3870 has the ability to ip a vlan and if so how that can be done.  I am able to create one but cannot ip it.  Thank you for your help.

RE: 3com 3870 vlan

In the menu, select "protocol", then "ip"...

RE: 3com 3870 vlan

looks like its a l3 switch from the description:
For Enterprise Ethernet networks needing a scalable, stackable, future-proof Gigabit Layer 2/3 switching and routing solution, the 3Com® SuperStack® 3 Switch 3870 24-Port is recommended.

If its like the 4500's and 5500's you can type this from the CLI: example is for vlan 5:

3810>en
3810]vlan 5
3810][vlan5] description xxx
3810][vlan5]int vlan 5
3810][int vlan5]ip address 192.168.1.1 255.255.255.0

thats it.  then just assign the vlan to a physical port on the switch and try to ping it.
