SMS 2.0 unable to connect to SQL server for reports

(OP)
When scheduling a report, the report fails and the error within the properties is that it can not connect to the SQL server. The SQL and SMS are on the same machine. Any ideas?

RE: SMS 2.0 unable to connect to SQL server for reports

Check to see if the Info Aps service is running on your site server. Until we installed SMS 2.0 Service Pack 1, this service (which is required) was not starting up by itself (even though it was set to Automatic). We had to manually start it (and it sometimes took a couple of tries). Again, you will not be able to run Crystal Reports unless this service is running.

The account to connect with the SQL server was set to administrator. It did not seem to like that. When I used the SMSService account everything went through just fine

RE: SMS 2.0 unable to connect to SQL server for reports

If you are using Crystal Reports that ships with SMS (I'm assuming you are) make sure the Crystal services have started. It was very common for these services to time out starting up.  SMS crystal reports doesn't use SQL authenication (if I remember correctly) it uses the WBEM.  Try using the WBEM connectivity tool and test your connection.
