I am trying to place some .eps files that someone sent to me.
I get the  EPS Import: CannotParse error message on every file. Thank you for any suggestions.

Can the EPS's be opened in Illustrator? If so then do a quick open and "save as"
that should fix it.

If they cannot be opened in Illustrator then try "Graphic Converter"

...another option is to run the eps through acrobat pro to convert to PDF then import PDF, but you have to have correct conversion settings setup under the acrobat preferences > convert to pdf > postscript/eps > edit settings...

...the settings are created or controlled via acrobat distiller...

Whatever you do don't open it in Photoshop. Photoshop instantly rasterises eps files when it opens them. If you think there may be text or vectors in the image then DO NOT open it in Photoshop.

You should get the person who sent you the file to either send you a .psd file (if file created in photoshop) or a .ai file (if created in illustrator).

If you can't get either of these for any reason then try the above suggestions.

Thank you all for your suggestions. We don't have Illustrator or Acrobat Pro. I volunteer at a non-profit with a very low budget for software. I did find a free program "ABC Amber EPS Converter" that allowed me to convert the .eps file to .tif. I was then able to place the .tif file in InDesign.

Thanks again for the suggestions.

Hummm, .tiff files will rasterise any vector element you may have in the EPS's
i.e. you will get dots in you type or lines.

But if you happy with the result, then that's good too.
