Out of all the fonts available which one is mostly used in publishing, in fact is there one????

RE: fonts

...wouldn't say there is just one, here are the most widely used...

Bickham Script Pro
Gills Sans, FF DIN, Franklin Gothic, Bembo, Rockwell, Avenir, Avant Garde, MrsEaves, Gotham, Sabon, Warnock Pro

and here is a list of the other widely used typefaces:

RE: fonts

Myriad is gaining popularity (whether it deserves it or not) as it is a default font for some design apps. But Helvetica is arguably king. Someone should make a documentary called 'Helvetica'.

RE: fonts

Thank you guys for your replies some useful info there.
It is interesting about Helvetica because I think it also a good font. There are a lot of varients, so which one claims the default slot

RE: fonts

Duly noted

RE: fonts

Within publishing, especially periodicals like newspapers and mags,  the Times family totally dominates other serif fonts and the Helvetica family dominates sans serif.

One reason for this is that they handle justification superbly.  Another reason is that many workflows were created using these and it's cost effective not to have to change those flows.

Using OSX 10.3.9 & 10.4.11 on a G4, G5 & Intel Macbook

RE: fonts

There is no way I want to get into a Font Fight.... but

Myriad is top ten in my worst font list.

Univers is also on their because of it many varieties

RE: fonts

I value all suggestions and responses to cries for help from me.All members have their favourite and most hated fonts it is just a matter of opinion and personal taste.
