Update from localhost in db

Update from localhost in db

Update from localhost in db

I've done my initial blog locally, but when I upload the files (and reconfig the paths in the config file), the graphics, etc. don't appear. I do get the text of the posts, header, footer, etc., but if I try to login to admin at the new address, it keeps trying to go to localhost:8888 et cetera. When I open the text file from the db, everything at links shows localhost:8888/wordpress/

I did a quick google search and saw a plugin to update this for moving hosts, but if I can't get to the admin section, how am I supposed to do that at the new hosting area? Or should I do that locally before I upload the db and related files? Clues to a beginner please?

Hope that's fairly clear.

RE: Update from localhost in db

I had the same problem. In the end, I exported the whole WP DB using MySQLAdmin, did a search-and-replace using Textpad for "localhost" to "mydomain.com" and imported that modified .sql file into the 'online' version.

It sounds like the plugin does much the same, but yes - you'd probably need to install it locally first.

I think also the WP address and/or blog address fields in the first settings page have a lot to do with this... so you could try setting those to the new address (locally), then uploading... although then you might not be able to get back in locally, so perhaps the text file or plugin is the best bet?

Hope this helps,

RE: Update from localhost in db

Thanks, both. I did a manual overwrite to get it up, but will look into the moving since right now everything is in a test directory.
