What is the earliest IOS software release that supports ADSL2/2+ on a WIC-1ADSL card? (I did research it but came up blank.)

The WIC-1ADSL module doesn't support ADSL2/2+ regardless of the IOS release as it is a physical limitation of the Alcatel modem chipset (. You need a High-Speed WIC module to support ADSL2/2+ (HWIC-1ADSL) or an ISR with integrated ADSL modem (877, 1801 etc). The HWIC-1ADSL only works in the newer ISR platforms (so NOT 1700 or 2600 series routers). ADSL2/2+ is backwardly compatible with ADSL - i.e. an ADSL2/2+ capable device (either DSLAM or modem) will drop back to lower speeds if they detect the partner is not ADSL2/2+ capable.

Some information on CCO here:

As to why you are seeing such poor connection speeds with the Cisco though I am not sure. It might be worth posting the output of the command 'show dsl interface atm 0' to show us your actual ADSL connection speeds as opposed to telling us it's 320Kbps?

I have worked on poor quality ADSL lines in the past where any of the Cisco ADSL routers I tried would simply not train up at all, however a cheap Belkin ADSL router managed to train up at 128Kbps downstream. In your case though a Netgear training at 8Mbps and a Cisco @ 320Kbps is pretty weird, if indeed the actual connection rate is 320Kbps?

As I said post the output of the command 'show dsl interface atm 0'....

Whoops, sorry about that meaningless information regarding the 320Kbps connection speeds - I was reading the other thread where someone was struggling getting a connection over 320Kbps with a WIC-1ADSL....

Anyway, the first part of my post is correct - a WIC-1ADSL does NOT support ADSL2/2+ as this is a hardware limitation of the Alcatel modem chipset used. You need a HWIC-1ADSL or an ISR router with integrated ADSL (Alcatel 2019x chipset) such as an 857, 877 or 1801.
