cloning a vm

do you have to power off the target guest that you intend to clone in order to create a new vm. or can you clone it while it is running?

RE: cloning a vm

it must be off to clone it or make a template.

RE: cloning a vm

With VirtualCenter 2.5 Update 2, you can create a clone of a powered-on virtual machine without any downtime to the running virtual machine

But you need to be running the latest VMware ESX Server 3.5 Update 2 | 13 AUG 2008 | Build 110268

RE: cloning a vm

I figured it out just after the initial posting that I could do it when the VM was up and running due to the version of ESX we are running.
