Shared Borders background colors

I am building a page with a shared left border.  I would like to make the background for the shared border black throughout the page and use different backgrounds for the main page.  Does anyone know of any way to do this?

RE: Shared Borders background colors

I have been trying this out with FP2000...you can edit the shared border directly in HTML.  What I did is open the web folder in windows explorer, and open the _borders folder.  There you'll find files (top.htm, bottom.htm) etc. for each of your borders.  Open them in your favorite text editor, and you can modify the <body> tag to add your background.  I seemed to run into conflicts when I did this with the web open in FP...so I'd suggest trying this with the web closed.  When you save the border file and reopen the web, it will take on the characteristics you want.  Let me know if anyone knows an easier way.  Thanks!

RE: Shared Borders background colors

I was trying this approach, but attempted to put java in the border, it shows it in preview mode, but not in normal mode or when published

i think you need to change something in the _borders\_vti_cnf directory in the top.htm file there

this is what that file looks like, any ideas on what may need to get changed???  When i publish the document, it still shows me my previous top border!  And it is NOT stored in my cache.  It's got to be this file
