Tool Tips Question #2 - Hover Time

Tool Tips Question #2 - Hover Time

Tool Tips Question #2 - Hover Time

(OP)
Is there a way to set how long you must hover over an item before the help text is displayed?  The 1/2 second that it seems to take by default is very fast.  I'd like to set it to 3 or 4 seconds.  Is there a way to do this?

          Thanks,
           -Scott

Please let me know if this has helped!

RE: Tool Tips Question #2 - Hover Time

Hi

I was thnking of tiping you with something else in your earlier post.

The Tool tip is always a 'mouse over object' help.

If you include in all the relevant objects...
*********************************************
GotFocusEvent
*************
DODEFAULT()
WAIT WINDOW This.ToolTipText NOWAIT NOCLEAR

LostFocusEvent
**************
DODEFAULT()
WAIT CLEAR
**********************************************
The above code will provide a help text in the wait window as you pass thru the objects. You can use the glTipState
to display the wait window or not.

Another way is to have a lblHelp in your Base Form at a suitable place at the bottom or at the top.
lblHelp..
properties...forecolor / font size can be set suitable to highlight...
AutoSize=.t.
Caption=""

Then in the GotFocusEvent.. said above.. put the code
ThisForm.lblHelp.Caption=This.ToolTipText

In the LostFocusEvent
ThisForm.lblHelp.Caption=""

This way help will be displayed at the appropriateplace...

Remember you can play in the init event of the lblHelp..
This.Visible=glTipState

Hope the idea helps you

RE: Tool Tips Question #2 - Hover Time

I suspect that ToolTip Help is a window's thing.  Therefore, the wait time would be set in a window's API call.  Which one, and whether you really should be messing with it I don't know.  I'd make sure, whatever it is, to change it back to what it was when you leave your program, or your clients won't like it much.
