Enterasys Matrix n7 - 2 vlans on one port. Not sure how.

Enterasys Matrix n7 - 2 vlans on one port. Not sure how.

I'm trying to set up 2 vlans on a single port coming out of our enterasys matrix.  The port will be connected to a dell powerconnect 3348 switch.

I've created 2 vlan's (40 and 41) with the following settings.

set vlan create 40
set vlan name 40 BDOtest
set vlan egress 40 ge.5.26
set port vlan ge.5.26 40 untagged
enable config
interface vlan 40
ip address
no shudown

set vlan create 41
set vlan name 41 BDOstatic
set vlan egress 41 ge.5.26
set port vlan ge.5.26 41 untagged
enable config
interface vlan 41
ip address
no shudown

One vlan (40) will be dhcp and be used for computer to gain access to the internet via that vlan (this one works).  I wanted to create the other vlan (41) for our network printers that have static IP's in order to allow static printers connected to this segment of the network to be accessible without having to reprogram their ip scheme.

I've been able to gain access via a windows XP machine on the 40 vlan, but when I try to test the 41 vlan by staticly programming the pc to that IP scheme, it is not able to access the network or ping anything.

I'm sure Im either missing a step or going about this completely wrong.  Ultimately, what I am trying to accomplish is creating a seperate vlan for each port on our N7, while at the same time assigning a second shared VLAN (41) to each port for the existing static ip printers.  The second vlan (41) should be available to every port on our switch and allow items programmed to that ip scheme to work.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

See comand "ip helper-address " use this command to enable dhcp relay forwaarding.
Its computer understands Vlan in the net interface ? or this using secondary address.?

RE: Enterasys Matrix n7 - 2 vlans on one port. Not sure how.

You can´t assign two different untagged VLANs on the same physical port.
So, you must decide which VLAN is untagged and which is tagged.

The switch connected on the ge.5.26 must understand VLANs, to tag the packet with the VLAN. The printers and PCs are final users, so they don´t need to know any VLAN, but depends on port in the second switch (Dell), they will be assign to one or another VLAN.

I hope this can help you.
