Time as a number

Time as a number

Time as a number

Hello i have a problem.
i have a field set up as a number where users enter time.
The user enters 4.5. They think they are entering 4 hours 50 minutes but it's actually 4 1/2 hours.
Based on the way the field is set up I'd like 4.5 to mean 4.83333

4.5 converted to time is 4.83333
4+(50/60) 4.833333.
Is there a calc function someone can help me out with?

RE: Time as a number

Why not set up two fields, one for hours and one for minutes?  That's the usual convention for soliciting time values from the submitter.
