Selection is empty when using magic Wand tool

(OP)
Hi - I'm using the magic wand tool to select an object. I have no problem in getting it to select the right object (adjusting tolerances works fine) ... yet whatever i try to do with the selection - copy/edit/move/promote ... whilst the shape has been selected perfectly .... the selection itself is empty / transparent. (It's not an opacity issue)

Please Help!!!!

RE: Selection is empty when using magic Wand tool

Could it be a Layer issue? maybe you are trying to copy from an empty layer.

Try selecting the layer where the content you want to copy is, and then copy.

Ignorance is not necessarily Bliss, case in point:
Unknown has caused an Unknown Error on Unknown and must be shutdown to prevent damage to Unknown.

I've tried that.

I've tried it when it's just background, - copying and pasting background to form new layer with identical image on - then selecting ... to no avail. The other selection tools work fine execpt for my shaky hand being nowhere near as good or quick as the magic wand tool...

I'm stumped on this one...
