Hello, I have recently inherited a GroupWise 7 system. I have admin equivelent rights.  I have added two users to the system and when I try to log in as the user I get 'user not found" I have the correct name and ip and port.  I can see the user in consoleone and nothing looks wrong.  What is going on?  any ideas helpful.... thanks Breezee

RE: Newly created user "NOT FOUND"

You ARE talking about logging into Groupwise and getting "user not found" and not logging into Netware.  Are you also logged into the computer as the same user in Novell or are you just logging into Groupwise??

Try hard coding the GroupWise shortcut for the Post Office's IP address, port number and user name.

Edit the properties of the GW desktop shortcut to look like this:

.....\groupwise.exe /@u-username /ipa=ipaddrofpostoffice /ipp-portofpostoffice

So something like this:

c:\program files\groupwise /@u-JoeUser /ipa=192.168.10.20 /ipp-1677

or you could use the /@u-?  parameter to prompt you for the user name instead of "assuming" anyone that's logged into the computer.

Take a look at the PO screen on the server to see what error is generated for more info.  You might have to bump up the logged to verbose mode, but you should get an error on the PO screen to get you started.

RE: Newly created user "NOT FOUND"

If the system has been neglected, it's possible that you have "Pending Operations" that prevent GroupWise from going through the processes to actual provision the user in the Post Office.

In ConsoleOne, open the Pending Operations dialog (One of the GroupWise menus) If there is anything in the list, that usually means something is stuck, especially if the dates go back a ways.

Okay, I found it! Under the same directory structure there are two copies of the entire domain.  I was connecting to an old copy of the domain and creating users in it.  Then trying to log on as the user I created.  So, the user would show up in ConsoleOne because I was pointed to the old domain structure where the user was created, but when I would try and log in as that user it would not find the user because the user really did not exist in the active domain structure.  I cussed the previous admin for lack of maintenance and for putting a copy of the domain on the same volume.
