Are you sure that your chassis have one IP address configured?
Usualy only the board have one IP address, and the MAC on the chassis is only for management purpose.
By the way, IMHO you could use 3 kind of solution:
1) Use the serial connection on one board installed on the chassis. You should browse the system by this board and understand what is it the IP on the chassis.
2) Use arp protocol. This means (i.e. on win system) do this procedure:
a)arp -s put_one_IP_address_of_your_net put_the_chassis_MAC
b) telnet IP_address_used_before.
3) Have you got any NMS like HP Openview or Enterays Net Sight? You could use the "compass" function that search for you the IP address on this MAC.
