If the enable password for the SSR (SmartSwitch Router) is forgotten or misplaced, it will be necessary to perform enable recovery.
To perform enable recovery on the SSR (SmartSwitch Router), the following steps may be used.
Manually reboot the SSR (SmartSwitch Router).

Press the key upon receiving the message, "Autoboot in 2 seconds - press ESC to abort and enter prom." (This message comes up quickly, so be prepared.)

Type "cp /int-flash/cfg/startup /int-flash/cfg/startup.sav", then press [return].

Type "rm /int-flash/cfg/startup", then press [return].

If the SSR is running 3.x or newer firmware, type "rm /pc-flash/startup", then press [return]. If not, then skip to the next step.

Type "reboot", then press [return].

After the SSR has completely booted up, type "enable", then press [return].

At the # prompt, type "copy startup.sav to scratchpad", then press [return].

Type "config", then press [return] for the configuration mode.

Type "show", then press [return].
Use the [spacebar] to scroll through the "scratchpad" configuration until you see the "system set hashed-password enable ..." (Note the appropriate line number in the left column.) Type "negate (number) scratchpad", then press [return].

Type "save active", then press [return].

Type "show", then press [return] again, to see that the old password has been removed. A new password may be entered using the "system set password enable (password)" command, then press [return].

Type "save active", then press [return] again to invoke the new password.

Type "save startup", then press [return] to provide the SSR with the newest startup configuration file. This action will also update any backup CM in the chassis.
