nimda virus removed - files read only

nimda virus removed - files read only

nimda virus removed - files read only

(OP)
I finally got rid of the nimda virus, but I still have to clean up the aftermath. Some computers when there are open files it comes up in "read only", there only can save it to their C-Drive, but not on the shared drive, where there usually save the files.
Also some users can't go on the Internet, we use I.E. and when there try, a fatal exception comes up, I don't knowif it's related to the virus nimda, or to the Virus Program, I installed McAfee.
Or if there can go on the Internet, if there start searching there get sometimes fatal exception errors.

Thanks again for all your help!!

RE: nimda virus removed - files read only

I think I found the problem with the read only, it was a permission, what must a changed when the virus came in.
But I still have problem with the Internet.
As soon as there start searching, there getting a fatal exception error.
ANY help greatly appreciated.

thanks

RE: nimda virus removed - files read only

The same virus got me too! I printed an analysis of that virus from aladdin.com 'cos I use there e-safe virus checker. I found after removing the virus that a file called  RICHED20.DLL was said to be corrupt. That is one of the files  this virus uses..........so I restored that file from my installation disk (HP Selective Recovery). Anyway replace that file and see if that helps as it is an edit file.

RE: nimda virus removed - files read only

We've had McAfee causing IE to crash with Fatal Exception errors after dat file updates. If this is the case, then you need to download the latest Superdat from the mcafee site. It's usually about 3Mb, and updates dll's as well as the engine file and dat file. You should find this sorts it. Other related problems are errors quoting mcscan32.dll, which can come up during a C drive scan.

RE: nimda virus removed - files read only

Try using a persoanl firewall with the highest setting to prevent Nimda from ocurring over and over again.  It works pretty good
