KX-TVA50 Initialization

Hello all...trying to install KX-TA824 & KX-TVA50 at my office.  Doing fine so far on the TA824, but the TVA50 won't initialize: after leaving it plugged in for a long time (20+ minutes), I see a series of flashes from both the Run and the Alarm LEDs, and then I start seeing bursts of 10 flashes of the Run LED at a time. I have not seen the requisite 5 flash burst to indicate success. When trying to initialize, I have the unit only connected to the power source, with the mode switches in their proper positions. I've tried powering down, removing power cord, waiting, re-powering-up, and letting it try again. No go.
I even tried powering down, resetting the mode switches to the normal mode, and connecting my laptop to it to see what I could see. My laptop recognizes it's out there at the other end of the USB cable, but I cannot connect to the system with the maintenance console.
Any ideas? Does it sound like I have a bad unit, or am I missing something?  I'm not a phone pro, but I know enough to have easily gotten the 824 working so far, and did the same with a 624 at home.

so you loaded the maint console for the tva 50 on your
pc and it saved the usb drivers on your desktop
when you go control panel and  in to device manager and look at usb devices does it show the tva with yellow triangle and a ! inside ? if so reload by update driver option load usb drivers again and try to connect

Yes to loading the console, drivers, etc, being installed properly. Everything is hunky-dory in device manager. Reloaded drivers for the heck of it, but no change. The driver I'm using is v., laptop runs XP.

Still seeing bursts of 10 flashes of the Run LED when trying to initialize.  Still not seeing the burst of 5 flashes of the Run LED that indicates successful initialization.

Now seeing bursts of 15 flashes of the Run LED when trying to connect.   I'll be honest, I didn't notice if that was true yesterday or not. My frustration level was a little high yesterday...

Thanks for any other suggestions that come to mind!

call the distributor if you follow the manual to the t
it should let you connect also you can call the non dealer
number for the tva!!

Called 800 211 7262... 1st rep told me to call a local dealer - that Panasonic didn't provide over-the-phone help for this type of system because it was "too difficult."  ?!? Pay for help when the system didn't work out of the box?

Have just called again...now on terminal hold...if you have any #s for Panasonic support besides 800 211 7262, that'd be awesome. If not, thanks again for your help and suggestions.  If Panasonic says anything helpful, I'll post the solution.

thats not the tech number in nj your dealer in your case the company that sold you the gear has to have that number!!
and if you bought it from telephoneisland good luck!

We don't have the 824 here in Australia, but on the TDA's if you haven't set the extension port that you connect your TVA to as a VOICEMAIL port, the TVA won't be able to auto detect anything.  And from memory, you can't connect to the unit while its in auto setup mode.  

I don't even use the dip switches anymore.  I find it easier, to plug it all in, ensure the phone system has been set correctly and then login to the TVM (aus TVA) and use the auto setup from the menu.  It lets you configure the VPS a bit during auto detection.

So, if I were you, I'd ensure that the extension you are providing to the TVA is set as a voicemail type extension as a starting point.

to check if the ports on the phone system are setup right !! plug in a phone if the phone works then there not setup right.

Thanks for the hints. I'd already gotten the 824 set up so that port 7  was configured as voicemail...and all other ports on 824 had phones plugged in, all fat and happy and working.  To be sure port 7 wasn't somehow fried when all else was working, I even reprogrammed 7 to be regular, plugged a phone in there, and that phone worked just fine.

And then, miracle of miracles, I Finally got through to a human at the panasonic help desk. I told them what I'd tried, and they told me "return or repair." So, I'm getting another shipped.
