ODBC loosing connection

ODBC loosing connection

I need to write reports in Excel, Access, Crystal. I have my ODBC connection setup to a sql 2005 server but after about 5 mins in both Excel & Access the connection drops and I loose all my work.
The ODBC drivers I am using are provided by Microsoft version 4.00.6304.00,  the file is ODBCJT32.dll with a date of 04/08/2004.
In Excel I get an Invalid curser state error then when I click OK I get communication failier, and need to come out of MSQuery and thus I loose all my work.
In access I get ODBC call failed,
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL SERVERDriver][TCP/IP Sockets]ConnectionRead(recv()).(#10054)[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][TCP/IP Sockets]General network error, check your network documentation.(#11)
