I have a data client running a data store with Informatica on a SOLARIS box. I have Pervasive running on a Windows Server and need to give the client a way of accessing the data. Is there any way for a UNIX box to access this data?

RE: pervasive 9 UNIX odbc

The only way you might be able to access data while running on the Solaris box would be JDBC.  There is a Linux client for Btrieve and ODBC.

Thank you Mirtheil. Can the Linux client and ODBC act as an interface to the windows server? Or does it just connect to the Linux BTrieve server? (I would try it myself but I'm in a small operation will no Linux resources and don't want to confuse the issue, our SOLARIS people are used to their vendors resolving all their issues for them. They had not even heard of BTrieve and Infomartica has steered them on.)

I have been trying to ascertain the answer to that question through forums/google/pervasive but could find no definitive answers. I'll be looking into the JDBC option pending the outcome of this investigation, and providing them with daily extracts as a stop gap measure until we resolve this properly.

Yes, the Linux client can connect to a remote Windows server or a local/remote Linux server.

Again, thank you. Just to confirm though, will another UNIX program then be able to use that client to access the data?

RE: pervasive 9 UNIX odbc

On a Linux box, you can write a program to use the Pervasive client.  I've seen C/C++ apps and PHP apps on Linux accessing data on local and remote machines.
