"Verifying DMI Pool Data..." PC Hangs.
(OP)
I am trying to repair a PC (not mine). It hangs in the boot process at the second screen, at the message:
"Verifying DMI Pool Data..."
It does not go so far as saying “Success”. Very occasionally it will boot into DOS and work OK, or boot as far as the Windows Splash screen. I have tried disconnecting all external devices except the floppy drive, but it still hangs. One time when it did boot to DOS I ran a diagnostic utility (PC Diagnostics95) and it reported:
“IRQ Map: 1 Error”
I am out of my depth here, I don’t know that the “DMI Pool” is, or how to trouble-shoot an “IRQ Map Error”
I have tried changing both the RAM and processor.
I can’t think of anything else to try, I can only suspect either the BIOS or power supply. Any suggestions appriceated.

Follow the resolution methods as proposed in the link :

see if you have any success. (If it is a generic hardware fault, any ritual of the world can not cure it.)

I have only the floppy conected at the moment, no HDD or other devices (sound and graphics are on-board), I have reset BIOS defaults, I have a known clean and working Win98 boot disk (OEM write protected) in FDD, I have chainged the RAM and CPU, PC still won't boot.

Regret you've not had any success from those pieces of advice from dewassoc. Nevertheless, it appears to me more of a ritual/procedural kind of fix, so it is not a big surprise that it may fail for the majority of cases.
Upon re-reading your posts, you got "irq map : 1 error". If it indicates irq 1, then it is normally associated with keyboard. No other device is usually associated with irq 1. Hence, one thing you have to check is the keyboard. Switch a working one from other computer to test out, should be easy.
If it still does not get rid of the error, then chances are mobo related. There you are back to square one and have to check all the switches on it, cpu, power supply, ram.
But, first look at the keyboard.
Another source of info may help you on irq:
