Copy files to Hard Disk in XP?

Copy files to Hard Disk in XP?

Copy files to Hard Disk in XP?

How do I copy files to a hard disk in XP? The program works in Windows 98. I use it for backing up files. It has to be kept simple for non-computer users to handle. Everything else works in XP except the copy. Do I need to set a parameter in XP?

RE: Copy files to Hard Disk in XP?

I'm not quite following your question?

Which files are you copying, where are you trying to copy them to?

RE: Copy files to Hard Disk in XP?

I have a menu item that allows the user to backup the files at the end of the day. It condenses the files and usually copies the data files to a floppy disk. In Windows 98 I could copy the files to another hard disk such as D: (working disk C:, for example). When I move the program to XP I get an error "An application has attempted to access the hard disk which cannot be supported. This may cause the application to function incorrectly. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application."

Ah, thanks...

It sounds like one of a number of possibilities:

Firstly I would suspect that your version of XP has been nailed down by SP2 and access to almost anywhere on the hard disk outside of 'My Documents' has been knobbled.

Where on the drive are you trying to copy to? Try going there in explorer and making a file manually.

RE: Copy files to Hard Disk in XP?

Thanks very much for your help. I am able to create directories in the hard disk. Here is what I found. When I remove the Funky functions isfloppy(), isfixed(), isdrive() from my code, I was able to create a directory and copy files to it. I tried to use Funky mediatype() and it didn't work either.

Your suggestion got me moving on the right track. Thanks.

RE: Copy files to Hard Disk in XP?

Ah, that makes sense, NT technology would like the low level DOS API functions that Funky is probably using - the HAL would cough it out.

Good luck
