Strange word splitting in a text box

Strange word splitting in a text box

I am a designer on Quark 7.1 on the new intel duo macs and all of a sudden my quark starts splitting words up in the text box when it is reduced in width, i  have set all h&js to off in both the standard menu and in the style sheets but this is not working (it also isn't even putting hyphens in where the word is split) i have also noticed some strange double spacing in the imported text which is in a txt doc from a pc any ideas its driving me mad and could prove to be very time consuming to sort out manually!!!

RE: Strange word splitting in a text box

...does this occur with any font you choose?

...have you tried deleting the quark preferences?

RE: Strange word splitting in a text box

...does this occur in newly created documents with text you type yourself rather than importing or opening a previously saved file?

...is the imported text completely plain text without any styles associated with it?
