I have been getting help with Crystal XI from the Business Objects forum but hope members of this forum will have more experience specifically with the Pervasive ODBC Interface.

Before I upgrade to CRXI Professional to get full ODBC connectivity, I wanted to confirm from other's experience that the Pervasive ODBC Interface will allow me to set up a data source that I can use for Crystal Reports.

Does this work in both Pervasive WorkGroup and Pervasive Client/Server?

How do I decide whether/when to use the Pervasive Engine Interface, or Client Interface?

Any feedback, comments or advice gratefully appreciated.

RE: Pervasive ODBC

I have been writing crystal from Pervasive datasources for many years.  I always use the engine interface.  I've never even tried the client.  I've never used workgroup either.

It is worth pointing out that you do not have to use ODBC in a Pervasive environment, you can connect directly to the .ddfs.  ODBC is preferred however, IMHO.

Most applications do not detect the difference between a Workgroup Engine and a Client/Server engine. While it is possible to detect which engine is being used, most applications do not. Most application will work with either engine.

It depends on when engine you are using, where the data resides, and where the application is running.  If you are using Client/Server, the data is on the server, and you are trying to access the data from a client then you would use the Client Interface pointing to an ENgine interface defined on the server.  In a Workgroup environment, or locally at the server, you would use the Engine interface.
