detect any update in remote postgresql table as an event

detect any update in remote postgresql table as an event

(OP)
Hi,

I'm new to develop postgresql appl with VB6 under windows.

Here is my question:
My VB application is connecting to the remote PostgreSQL DB.
(The remote PostgreSQL DB server is running under Windows.)
I want to let my VB appl catch any changes of a specific table
in the remote PostgreSQL DB as a VB event.

Is it possible? If so or does equivalent action, please let me know how to do it.

Thanks in advance

RE: detect any update in remote postgresql table as an event

Yes, I believe it is possible, but may be not directly.  You can setup a TRIGGER or RULE to change something when your table has been updated.

If you setup PL/Perl, there maybe some open doors to access COM/VB Objects.   Otherwise, PL/pgsql would have to update/insert records into a log or transaction table that would have to be checked by your VB app.

you can use something like
using trigger/rule you can send messages through NOTIFY command, and your program will have to LISTEN for the signals and check what has happened
