Acces97 blocked by Office2000

Acces97 blocked by Office2000

Acces97 blocked by Office2000

(OP)
We mistakenly purchased a version of Office 2000 (Small Business, I think) that doesn't include Access.  I figured we could just go on using Access97 after the Office2000 installation, but then noticed that all the access database icons had been changed from the 97 version to the 2000 version and trying to open them produced an error message stating that some .dll's were missing -- looking, I think, for Access2000 files.  These databases are very important to our business, so I completely uninstalled Office2000 and re-installed Office97, hoping to just go back to the way things had been.  Now, however, when we try to open Access, we get a message that it can't run because we have no license for it.  The other Office97 apps all run fine and our copy of Office97 is quite legitimately licensed.  Any ideas as to what's going on here?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Just found several Access97 vs. Access2000 proposed solutions at MS support site -- will try them tomorrow, follow-up here.

RE: Acces97 blocked by Office2000

I had the same problem, I looked into the MS Knowledge Base, and found out that Office when it is uninstalled does not remove any of the keys in the registry.  That is why it is not allowing you to install Office97Pro, the registry keys are still in the registry for Office2000.  There is no program by Microsoft to remove the keys.  They say they are working on making one ::hehe::  I have installed/uninstalled Office97 several times to no avail keep getting "Access can't load because there is no license for it on this machine" message.  Good luck!

ccprgrmr,

The Knowledgebase solution worked for me:

1. delete the Hatten.tty font

2. start your install from a command line in your CD root directory with the /y switch, e.g. D:\setup.exe /y

This forces Office 97 to edit the registry, evidently getting rid of Office 2000 references.

Good luck!
