quicktime installation registry error

(OP)
when i try and download quicktime, at the end of the installation it says: Could not open key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Classes\QuickTimePlayerlib.QuickTimePlayerApp\CLISID. verify that you have sufficient access to the key or contact your support personnel

how do i fix that?

RE: quicktime installation registry error

Did you ever get a response to your quesiton?  I have the same problem!

RE: quicktime installation registry error

(OP)
I fixed it by doing an f disk and starting from scratch due to other problems with the computer

I have fixed the problem with the registry key errors. It is a permissions issue.
Regedit and browse to key. Right click and view permissions. Go to advanced and tab ownership. I will be empty. take ownership with the administrator group and click ok.
Then in the security area add the administrator group and give it full permissions. That should populate the box with the administrators group, system and user. Run QT install again and keep changing permissions on the keys needed.

When I was done it didn't completley work only after I installed the free bundled I tunes and QT package did it work completley!!

Good Luck

RE: quicktime installation registry error

I have tried coolsea's fix but I could not get the permissions to take for some reason. My error message was different but I suppose the same applies. Here is what mine said
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\AppleComputer,Inc.\QuickTime\ActiveX

I went in and tried to delete all of the apple and Q-time folders and subs from the reg. was able to get rid of all the Apple subs but not the main, With the Q-time I could not remove anything. also used the Wnd-Installer cleanup but could not find anyhting that resembled any of the Apple or Q-Time applications. Any further help would be greatly appreciated.

RE: quicktime installation registry error

I finally gave up and reinstalled windows and then ITune and QuickTime all over again.  My computer now runs faster and everythng works.  But...what a pain!  Good luck.

RE: quicktime installation registry error

I would love to try coolsea's advice but don't know what 'Regedit' is. I apologize for my ignorance and so wish that some kind soul will take mercy and help me with this?
Thank you...Kind Soul.

RE: quicktime installation registry error

I have tried Coolsea's solution and it worked. It's all about permissions. I was able to install QuickTime (including I-tunes) successfully on 2 different laptops (PC), but ran into the same problems as mentioned in this thread trying to install even the standalone QuickTime on my desktop PC.

I uses regedit and looked for key "QuickTimePlayerLib.QuickTimePlayerApp" in
"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes".

I had no permissions at all.
With the guidelines Coolsea gave us, I set the permissions.
I now performed a "refresh" an saw 2 (two) new keys belonging to "QuickTimePlayerLib.QuickTimePlayerApp". Those keys are named: "CLSID" and "CurVer". I repeated the same persmissions-action to both of them. The key "CurVer" points to key "QuickTimePlayerLib.QuickTimePlayerApp.1" which can be found right below key "QuickTimePlayerLib.QuickTimePlayerApp".
I performed the same persmissions-action on that key en also performed a "refresh" of the screen.
Now key "QuickTimePlayerLib.QuickTimePlayerApp.1" showed having a child-key named "CLSID". Here the same permission-action was performed.

I now have I-tunes with the new QuickTime-version installed and running on my Desktop PC.

Be sure to confirm that with adding the user "administrators" that the permissions are set to "Full control".

I thank Coolsea.

My advice to birdiebrd. Don't mess with regedit before you grasp the consequences.

Good luck everyone.

RE: quicktime installation registry error

Father of 5 is on the right track.

BUT..here is another suggestion.  If you don't see the CLSID key under the QuickTimePlayer.Lib even after you change the permissions, look closely.  In my case, after I changed the permissions to all administrators, it only showed my daughter as the one administrator that had permission AND the CLSID key didn't show up at all.

I had my daughter log in.  I went to the registry and....low and behold....the is the CLSID key!  On a whim, I then tried to download Itunes.  Worked like a charm.

I think my daughter must have downloaded a newer version and for some reason, the Apple changed the registry so that it limits who can upgrade Itunes at a future date.  My guess:  If you don't have permission, log into your computer under a different account and try to install Itunes.  I'll bet you a nickel, you'll find one of the accounts works!!

RE: quicktime installation registry error

feistey,

Brilliant! Exactly right ... even down to the daughter who did the recent download!  Thanks.
