not able to change passwords

not able to change passwords

(OP)
We have a 2 site MM (R3) working for the past 2 Months and all of once we can not change a users passwords on any of the 2 sites > all using Default COS

1)
a NEW mailbox with default password set from the start > its asks you to change the password once you enter it > but no matter what is typed its says thats invalid > should be 4 or more > can not be same as default & mailbox number
2)
tried to remove / add mailbox ( does not allow PW change )
but no matter what is typed its says thats invalid > should be 4 or more > can not be same as default & mailbox number.
3)
tried to add another mailbox ( does not allow PW change )
but no matter what is typed its says thats invalid > should be 4 or more > can not be same as default & mailbox number
4)
tried changing COS to another COS ( does not allow PW change )but no matter what is typed its says thats invalid > should be 4 or more > can not be same as default & mailbox number

5)
an exsisting mailbox already enabled & password change when it was setup about 2 monyhs ago but now when you go in and choose option 4 then 9 (PW )still comes back with thats invalid > should be 4 or more > can not be same as default & mailbox number

tried all different combos

I have not checked the logs on either I will do when I get back on site unusual that it started all at once as they have been in an happy since install until I guess
today as I have not heard of any issues and I had added a couple of users about 3 weeks ago and was able to login
change passsword - record name - record greeting as its stands now all unopened mailboxes are stuck in the change
password error and not able to proceed to name / greeting
recordings.
I will let you know if and what I find :)

Globel Admin > Subscriber Admin > Add or Edit
enter subscriber and change passowrd > save

its just throught the TUI interface thats the trouble I wouldn't think there a setting to disallow changing through tui that mave have been changed ?? as I have searched COS
settings with out finding a setting

RE: not able to change passwords

Have you applied the latest Service Pack?  Even if this is not listed in the list of fixes sometimes loading the latest patches clears a lot of problems up.  I was having an issue and it wasnt listed as one of the fixes and it got cleared up when I applied the service packs.  Also if you try and call Avaya for support that is the first thing they will say to do.

RE: not able to change passwords

It may be that just restarting the system will clear it up also. I have seen alot of strange things go away with a reboot or a restart of the MAS service

rebooted MAS server same results when trying to change password

prompt 103

"I'm sorry, that is not a valid password. Your new password must be a random nunber independant of your
mailbox number or old password"

prompt 151

"Enter the new password now, then press #"

Called ticket into Avaya 2 days ago > after looking at all the TUI subscriber settings -looked fine > looked at logs
- looke fine  > and then looked at vmdb > seeing duplicate mailbox in vmdb would like to do database rebuild after-hours > what would cause a duplicate entry because when you add / edit it knows if it exsists or not .

Anyone run into a bad hard drive if this becomes a common trouble ??

RE: not able to change passwords

The only time I have seen this is if you remove a mailbox and then add it right back in.  It can take 3 mins for the FEDB to update and if you add it back before it does then the mailbox has 2 entries in the FEDB. The only way I know of to fix it is to rebuild the FEDB.

Or if the PRIV lan is not working when the changes are made.

RE: not able to change passwords

(OP)
That would explain dup mbox I may have deleted / added this mailbox when the user brought to light with password with changing via TUI but that was after and not before as I tried from several different mailboxes as well before delete / add Mbox xx as well with exsisting mailboxes

what kinds of issue did you get with dup in FEDB ?

Thank you by the way for all the replies you seem to be the go to guy on the MM forum

ayavauser

RE: not able to change passwords

When i have seen the dups it would not let you get in the mailbox at all but i have not seen one act like this.  Is it working now?

RE: not able to change passwords

Ken
The FEDB rebuild fixed the issue ! Avaya had all sorts
of trouble getting back into MAS / with trying to get the remote desktop working after 1 1/2 hours of trying

reset Modem ....
switched modem numbers ....

no luck so I asked how involved was it > for my size under 100 Mailboxes ( not to involved ) I asked that he send me
any hekpful tips ....

Avaya Tech ended sending the instructions to me for Release 3 FEDB rebuild ( Avaya Tech was a real nice guy I can't say enough of how calm he was the whole time trying to get in ......)

I imagine its just getting the MAS to resynch to MSS ?
as you have to clear to counters in regedt32

I assume it thought no matter what password you used when
trying to change a password that it already had been used
even though it had not because it was doing ot to old
mailboxes , New & just created mailboxes

ayavauser

RE: not able to change passwords

That is great. If you can can you post what they sent you to rebuild the FEDB all i have is for rel 1 and 2 but nothing in hard copy on 3.

How long did it take ? about 10 or 15 mins?

Thanks
