Can Director do this? Multi lingual Autorun CD program

Can Director do this? Multi lingual Autorun CD program

(OP)
Hi,

I'm looking at Director to solve a problem (although am open to solutions as to any tool/progrmming language to solve this). Do you think it could do the following?

I need to provide a program that autoruns when a CD is inserted.

This is for registering products and needs to allow the user to select their country and language (and will pick up the defaults from windows as the initial selection).

It obviously then needs to display all text in the selected language.

The registering part is done through the web, so all that is needed is to direct the users to the correct web page based on their country if they choose to register now.

If they choose to register later the program needs to install itself somewhere and automatically remind the user when the reminder period is up.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

Cheers
Marc

RE: Can Director do this? Multi lingual Autorun CD program

All that can be done in Director, but there's one caveat. Director cannot handle Unicode (Adobe is currently working on it and the new version with Unicode ability will be released in the next year), and if you want to use Unicode XML for multilingual display you have to embed Flash.

For that reason you may just want to use Flash instead, but Flash cannot access the local disk. If you need that then you have to embed Flash in Director or other wrappers such as Zinc etc.
