Need a backup solution

Need a backup solution

Need a backup solution

I backup about 20 of my local servers and also just the system state in all my remote servers...amounts to about 90 gigs a day. So far we have been using tape backup. Is there a better solution and even amoung tape drives is there a suggestions ?

We usually do a weeks' backup and have a week's put away. So 2 weeks of tapes is all we have.

Need a clean, most-hassel free soltuion, please help.

RE: Need a backup solution

1. Do you have any requirement for agent-lead backups of database/mail systems, or is this purely file-level backup?

2. What is the mix like in terms of operating systems?

3. Will you be looking to send backups from remote systems to a central server somewhere? If so, what sort of bandwidth do you have?

4. Is there a SAN involved at the moment? If not, is there likely to be one in the near future?

5. What will be your requirement in terms of RPO & RTO on a server-by-server basis? How about the site?

6. What is your current tape technology?

7. Do you have a fairly uniform server platform, or are you in a multi-vendor set-up?

8. Anything that isn't Wintel or mainstream UNIX ?

Lots of questions, I know, but your answers may help you to narrow the field a little :)

Kind Regards,

Take a look at this

"Whenever I dwell for any length of time on my own shortcomings, they gradually begin to seem mild, harmless, rather engaging little things, not at all like the staring defects in other people's characters."

RE: Need a backup solution

You've managed to leave out a LOT of important information.  What systems you are using (Solaris/Linux/Windows/Other), data growth, if you're under any legal requirements to keep the data.  I would suggest you read over my backup comment.  It started as a comment and grew and grew and grew so I made it into a web page.  Check it out here:
