SMDR is Disabled

SMDR is Disabled

SMDR is Disabled

(OP)
Hello,
I have just recently connect a pc to the DCE port of my G3SI switch. When I try to run a demo of the call accounting software the log says its SMDR disabled. Where can i enable this feature.

Also what commands do i type in when I have the connections working. Will it automaticly pick up the data onto the call accounting software after i have configured it.

I was trying it in hyperterminal first and what commands if there is any do i have to type in in order for the information to come out in hyperterminal. The data that I want to collect is just what extension is dialing to where. Very simple but being a Newbie this seems tough. Any help or input is really appreciated.

RE: SMDR is Disabled

You should be able to enable the feature  in the ch sys cdr screen.  The primary output endpoint field will show up after you select your primary output format.  In the endpoint field you will need to type in eia.

You can look in the admin book under CDR to find out which output format  meets your needs.

Good luck

Roche

RE: SMDR is Disabled

You will also need to enable CDR for the trunk groups you want to track.

The commands that you will need to use are as follows -

cha sys cdr
sta cdr
busy cdr
rel cdr

Thanks guys for all the help. Ill give it a try and see if it works. Thanks again.

RE: SMDR is Disabled

I've tried the above.  Stat CDR shows link is down.  I appear to not have the auth. to busy and rel the CDR - only MIS.

Suggestions?

RE: SMDR is Disabled

rstockton,

If you have maintenance call Denver and have them do it for you.  If you don't have maintenance it will cost a bundle to do that.  Perhaps there is another login for the system that has MSPs?  If not you should think about getting them.

RE: SMDR is Disabled

What other benefits will this give me?

RE: SMDR is Disabled

Thanks,

What other benefits will this give me?

Alos, I've pointed the CDR Primary Output to a Data Module attached to my PC.  All that hyperterm outputs is:

RING

RING

RING

Suggestions?  (or is this, again, busy and release the cDR?)

TIA

RE: SMDR is Disabled

Your data mod is not connecting to the switch what is happening is hyperterm is trying to use the data mod to call the string and it should be reciving info not sending. Im sure there is a way to fix this however Since I had a maintenance contract I called avaya out to replace the data mod. and It worked fine.

I trouble shoot the issue for about 5 hours before calling and continued to recive the

ring
ring

also.

RE: SMDR is Disabled

An 8410 is a digital telephone. The datamod needs to be set in DCE mode. Hyperterm is showing "RING" becuase the PBX is trying to call your datamod but it is not answering. You now need the datamod to answer the call. In the setup I have I use an 7400A and once I get the "RING" do the following...

for 7400A or B
1. Press NEXT/NO until you see ANS/ORG CALL on the Datamods Display.

2. Press Enter/Yes and the datamod will answer.

You should then see output in Hyperterm if not make sure Hyperterm has a direct connection to the serial port to which the Datamod is connected on your PC. If you are using a different datamod let me know and I will post the settings you should have.

hope this helps

Ok which cable will I need. Will I need a cable with one that has a 25 serial connection and the other with a RJ45 connection to do this. Or will the other end be a RJ11 instead of a RJ45.
Also I have a 8410D phone. If I was to attach the 25 serial pin cable with a RJ45 to the 8410D phone. What do i do next. Will I need a RJ45 connection with a 9 pin serial fromt the phone to the computer or something. Can anyone please explain this a little bit more to me . Thanks in advance.

Oh and also how much do a C-Lan card cause.

RE: SMDR is Disabled

you are correct an 8410 is a digital phone my data mod is a 8400b.

as far as the hyperterm showing ring if it were the pbx trying to call the datamod. In my case I disconnectred the data mod from the digital port and still saw ring the data mod was trying to call out and not getting info in. That is why I had it replaced I had a avaya tech out here for 3 hours and they couldnt figure it out either. there was a problem with the config and since it kept ringing they could not restore the old config.

RE: SMDR is Disabled

I'm sorry I should have clarified, that answer was for rstockton.

As for you YLOR here is the set up.

First the PBX …

1. As roche explained use CHA SYS CDR and set the Pirmary Output Ext to EIA and the EIA bit rate to 9600 this will direct the CDR output to the 25 pin DCE port in the back of the PBX.

2. Get a cable that has a 25 PIN Parallel connector on one end and a 9 PIN serial connector on the other end. Connect the 25 PIN to the PBX and the 9 PIN to the computer (in this case we will say com port 1).

Then the PC…

3. Open Hypertrm.exe, type a name and click OK. Next click connect using and select Direct to Com 1.

4. Set your port settings 9600, 8, None, 1, Hardware. And click OK

You should then see some output from the switch to Hyperterm. If you do not make some test calls, the switch will not send data until the call is completed. Use Hyperterm to test your connections once you are getting data from the switch you can close Hyperterm and run your call accounting demo. Make sure you tell the app which port you are using and the necessary communications settings. You do not need a Datamod for the above setup, but you will if you want to relocate the computer out of reach of the serial cable.

I hope this explains it

RE: SMDR is Disabled

I don't know what was going on with your Datamod José but you will get the same RING on an incoming call.

RE: SMDR is Disabled

Here's where I'm trying to go at the moment:
Datamod 8400b connected to PC and into wall jack.  Wall jack is punched down as a 2-wire connection to a TN224B circuit pack.

Datamod form is config'd as:
Type:  pdm
ITC:  Restricted
Connected to: dte

Datamode flashes alternate red and green lights.  When I dial it from the outside, I get busy signal.  I can config S registers from PC.  I cannot get data to the mod from the PBX.

stat data 509 (datamod ext.) shows in service/idle

I'd prefer to do this than use CDR if possible.

T for all yer helps

RE: SMDR is Disabled

If you are still getting just RINGING then try this.

1. busy out the cdr link
2. go into hyperterm and connect to the com port that the data module is connected to.
3. type in AT and press enter.  You should receive a response of OK.  If you do not receive an OK then you are not connected to the data module and will need to check the cable connections.
4.  Type in the following:
AT&F <Enter>
ATS0=1 <Enter>
ATS24=1 <Enter>
AT&W0 <Enter>
AT&W1 <Enter>

5.  Exit out of Hyperterm and relaunch it.
6. connect to the com port again and release the cdr link.

RE: SMDR is Disabled

That seemed to take care of it.  I'm getting data, though it appears to be dropping and re-connect.  Avaya TS is sending out a new datamod as they're seeing errors.

Thanks all for the input
