Metadata Migration SQL to Oracle

Metadata Migration SQL to Oracle

Metadata Migration SQL to Oracle

Is it possible to convert metadata from  MS SQL to Oracle?  If so, any suggestions?

RE: Metadata Migration SQL to Oracle

Yes - it is project duplication.  Create a new, empty metadata in Oracle and duplicate your existing metadata.  There are some detailed tech notes in the knowledge base that describe how to do this.

RE: Metadata Migration SQL to Oracle

Yes is quite ease there are several ways, this is just one:

1 Create a new database instance in Oracle
2 create an odbc (System DSN) to connect to this new oracle database
3 then go to start-programas- microstrategy- configuration wizard and run the Metadata Repository and statistics tables
4 Select the Create Metadata Tables and the Create default project source (input the name of the project you are using)and hit next
5 select the new odbc of the oracle database input user and password and hit next - ok -next
6. Go next next until wizard tells you that new metadata tables were created.
7. Go to Desktop an you should find the new project source you created, open it and sign on with administrator with no password, just to check it, you will no see no project on it.
8. close it and go to start-programs-microstrategy-administrator-object mannager
9. Open Object Manager, close the open project source box
10. On top project menu select duplicate project, duplicate project box opens, hit next
11. sign as administrator and select the project source that contains your projects, and select one of the projects and hit next
12. select the new project source you created on Oracle sign in as administrator with no password.  This will be the destination metadata. Hit next
13. enter the name of the duplicated project and hit next
14. Select all objects, all objects, all users and user group and hit next
15. Select the "use properties for source from source (Replace)" for each option and hit next
16. let default logs just hit next
17. let default log adress and hit next
18. summary setup duplication window should appear, just select finish and watch the duplication of the project to new oracle metadata.
19 once finish close and repeat the object manager operation for each project until you complete the hole project source projects.
20 close you object manager and open your desktop, open the new project source of Oracle metadata and run a report just to be shure everything is ok.

That should make it.

Hope this help you.  Please post your results!!!
