iMovie won't accept a .mov clip

iMovie won't accept a .mov clip

I have been sent a short Quicktime clip that has been saved in a .mov format.
The clip has been sent by a Windows colleague and looks on the surface like a normal Qtime clip. The clip does not contain audio and only 24 seconds of footage.

I want to put the clip into iMovie but I get the error message 'This file could not be imported: Unknown error.

I have been to the website where the clip is from and it doesn't give me any options to download the clip (I have Qtime Pro 7 so normally i can).
It claims that the clip cannot be saved.
I don't know how the person I got it from managed to do it but they are a Windows user so any advice won't probably work anyway.

I need to know of some simple to use and preferrably free software that I can use to convert the clip into another format that iMovie will accept.

I am running OSX 10.4.5 using iLife '06 and Quicktime Pro 7.0.4

RE: iMovie won't accept a .mov clip

Quicktime Pro exports as .MPGs. Try that.

And make sure it actually is a .MOV file. The extension doesn't always say what the file type is, especially if someone accidentally named it wrong(whether by ignorance or mistake).
