Symbol scanner ADF rules

I just got a symbol LS 2208 barcode scanner today.  I was wondering if anyone is familiar with Symbol scanners and might be able to help with ADF rules.  After the data is scanned in, I would like it to input the keystrokes "enter" and "Alt+G".  I assigned a string and set up rules for those using Symbol's 123scan software.  For example, I assigned $F to be enter followed by alt+g.  When I printed and scanned a barcode that was *$F* it performed those functions without a problem.  However, when I did a barcode with data then $F, for example *1234$F* it just returned 1234$F instead of performing the functions after entering the data.  I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong, but if anyone could point me in the right direction I would appreciate it!
